Exhibition at the Bonartes Photo Institute "Only the Biggest Construction Sites – Marianne Strobl's Photo Campaigns" 13. 8. to 21. 11. 2025

Nearly a hundred examples of regional transport vehicles from throughout the monarchy were displayed at a special exhibition for military provisioning in Vienna in 1894: The vehicles’ load capacity and maneuverability were to be tested for “army needs,” as they would need to be requisitioned in case of war. Marianne Strobl’s standardized photographs – with consistent distance maintained between the (individually numbered) ladder wagons and the camera –demonstrate size relationships. The collected information was made available through a publication with a detailed accompanying catalog.

When the Danube Steamship Company presented their ships as postcards or as pictures in their annually published timetable, Strobl pursued the same strategy: Even in the smaller views, an identical image frame ensures that they can be compared.
